2 Days Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary Tour Safari
Exploring Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary: A Cornerstone of Conservation and Adventure
Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary stands as a beacon of wildlife conservation in East Africa, home to the largest population of black rhinos on the continent. Nestled in Kenya's Laikipia County, this private reserve offers a unique opportunity not only to witness these magnificent creatures but also to encounter chimpanzees in their natural habitat, a rarity in Kenya.
The sanctuary embodies a remarkable legacy of ecological preservation and provides a fascinating glimpse into the diverse wildlife that East Africa has to offer. Located a mere two hours’ drive from Nairobi, Ol Pejeta is the ideal destination for a short safari, where visitors can explore the stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity in just two days.
The journey to the sanctuary itself is a delight, crossing the equator and weaving through lush coffee, tea, and pineapple plantations, all while being greeted by the majestic sight of snow-capped Mt. Kenya in the distance—the country's highest peak. At Ol Pejeta, variety reigns supreme. In addition to the black

Day 1
NAIROBI – OL-PEJETA (220km: Approx: 4 Hours)
07:30 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or Nairobi airport.
We’ll head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep for the Ol Pejeta Sanctuary. We’ll be traveling through Laikipia County toward the Aberdare/Mt. Kenya area, passing numerous farms along the way.
We’ll stop at coffee and tea plantations for a closer look, and time permitting, at a local market.
Our route takes us directly across the equator, and we’ll take a moment to stop and enjoy this unique spot, straddling the hemispheres.
At Ol Pejeta, you’ll be amazed by the diversity of wildlife. Endangered rhinos plus the Big Five are all here as well as giraffe, hippo, impala, gazelle, zebra, jackal, hyena… even monkey and baboon.
This is also home to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary within the reserve. It’s a place where rescued chimps are cared for and given free rein within their natural habitat. It’s the only place in Kenya where you can observe these playful and intelligent primates.
The sanctuary also features an endangered species enclosure. It’s big enough to go on a game drive, and within its boundaries, you’ll spot rhinos and other rare animals like Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest.
You may want to take advantage of an optional visit to the local tribespeople, the Maasai. At their village, you’ll get to meet these indigenous people and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Just ask your guide to set up a personalized tour.
Day 2

We’ll be up with the monkeys, the birds and whoever else we meet as the morning light spreads over the sanctuary.
Later, we’ll enjoy breakfast at our accommodation and then continue tracking big game and perhaps some unusual sightings like the packs of wild African dogs known to inhabit the reserve.
We’ll make plans for lunch, and then a final game drive as we head back to Nairobi.
We hope you got to check off many species from your wish list during this active 2-day safari adventure.
We should arrive back in Nairobi toward early evening and we’ll drop you off at your residence, hotel or Nairobi airport.
